Begin the festive season with Andover Choral Society and two delightfully contrasting Christmas works. Part Five of Bach's Christmas Oratorio opens with the joyful, sparkling chorus 'Glory to the Lord' and charts the flight into Egypt. Saint-Saens' Oratorio de Noel is heavily influenced by Bach (the Prelude is even described as 'dans le style de Seb. Bach'), comprised of chorales, choruses (including the highly dramatic 'Quare fremuerunt gentes' - 'why are the nations in uproar?'), and solo and ensemble movements, but in Saint-Saens' distinctive French Romantic style.
